The Courage to Speak

Courage is the willingness to confront life challenges with bravery and confidence. Life challenges are in seemingly endless supply – and for most, public speaking is tops among them. When we examine deeply entrenched and unchallenged speaking anxiety we see it has some very negative consequences. It keeps us from some inalienable human capacities and leaves us with the following:[clear]

  • Loss of our ability to effectively communicate
  • Loss of our ability to persuade
  • Loss of our ability to lead
  • Etc.

Mastering the skill of public speaking helps us master these inherently powerful human communication capacities. We no longer have fear or anxiety when dealing with speaking, presenting or leading. We can hold our own and communicate with confidence and power.

Courage to Speak

Think about it. You deserve to master this skill and have it serve your goals and needs. Public speaking yields much in the form of benefits in career and life. I’ll be the first to ask you to explore moving beyond any blockage or limitation you may currently have to find out these benefits for yourself. Let not fear or anxiety hold you back from anything! This brings to mind a favorite quote I have on this subject:

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.
–Eleanor Roosevelt

Give this a try. I am confident that you will learn that you have more courage and personal power then you ever imagined. Just like a muscle, exercise it and it will grow stronger and stronger. In essence, it’s all about creating positive habits. How we think and act can be framed by them, so we should choose wisely. The positive habit of courage can lead us to overcome life’s many obstacles. Start today! Wishing you speaking success!

  1. It is time for me to face my fears and begin to build the confidence that I need to speak to an audience. I have been trying for months to be able to conduct my communication, however it is so difficult that most times it feels discouraging to even try. Although I will not let it get the best of me and continue trying until I succeed!

    1. Brad,

Yes, indeed it is. I hope that this blog and our public speaking training will be what helps you gain this confidence. Please come back and share your comments and questions. You are always welcome!

  2. The most effective way for me to pass my fears is to actually confront them head on. I feel that the more aggressively I try to combat them the more they fall into submission, and I manage to see some success in my life. For me public speaking has never been easy and therefore it is going to take some real determination on my part to strive through.

    1. Ruben,

I can hear your determination and therefore don’t doubt your resolve and eventual success. Please keep your comments, questions and suggestions coming. I’m always here to help you achieve speaking success.

  3. I have always known what to say. Just that I have never had the courage and confidence to say the things I want to say. How to express my thoughts in public has been a life long challenge for me.

    1. Your awareness of this is the first step in your journey but only effort will bring you to your destination. It’s my hope that you develop that confidence until it becomes second nature. Everyone deserves to ‘own’ their voice and express their truth. Please do reach out if we can be of help in any way.
